CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 31, 2005 – Dubai Ports International (DPI), one of the world’s leading port operators, has selected Charlotte-based Waypoint Solutions Group to manage and/or maintain its extensive computer networks and hardware, electronic messaging systems and traditional land-line-based and Voice Over Internet Protocol (voIP) telecommunications systems.
The exclusive one-year agreement means Waypoint Solutions Group will advise DPI regarding hardware and systems in its mammoth 15-port terminal operations in 8 countries on f continents. Waypoint will design and implement, migrate and manage the technology solutions for DPI’s more than 100 servers as well as providing systems and security management, managed messaging and core network infrastructure services.
Dubai Ports comprises Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) and DPI Terminals (DPI) and has led Dubai’s extraordinary transformation into one ofthe world’s leading trade and commerce hubs. Dubai is the second largest of the seven emirates which make up the United Arab Emirates and ranks as the country’s leading commercial centre.
In January 2005 DPI transformed its network with the strategic acquisition of Jacksonville, Fla.-based CSX World Terminals (CSX WT). This acquisition gave DPI a strong presence in Asia with major operations in Hong Kong and China as well as operations in Australia, Germany, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Importantly for the future development and expansion of its network, DPI also acquired CSX WT’s strong project pipeline.
Waypoint Solutions Group had provided infrastructure consulting, design, implementation and support to CSX WT for two years before DPI acquired it.
